Birds of Paradise is a boutique Singaporean gelato brand that is inspired by the botanicals of Southeast Asia, creating carefully balanced but wonderful flavours using fruits, flowers, pods, herbs, and spices.

Brand Snapshot

Ice cream and the tropics would seem to go together as well as a horse and cart. It’s cold refreshment in relentless heat - what could be better. As such, it makes sense that a gelato brand should emerge from these shores.

And then, considering that ice cream in its most basic form is largely a blank canvas, an opportunity to layer in different palette-playing flavours and combinations, the ingredients selected to infuse it play an outsized role. Getting that right is what puts the craft in craft gelato - the unlikely pairings and inclusions that have us talking about ice cream as we might a fine wine. Textures, notes, subtleties, metaphors.

Birds of Paradise has recognised that the botanicals of Southeast Asia provide a vast array of these inspiring ingredients, and that each of them is often very well served frozen and scooped. In paying homage to nature’s delicacies, it becomes a gelato brand that is quiet in its expression, loud in its palette. Their particular paradise is not wild but subdued.

The whole brand is a nod to the carefully balanced and refined combinations they create. The consumption experience demands to be savoured and not rushed - save missing any unlikely or deeply buried notes. Think Earl Grey and lemongrass. Spiced pear. White chrysanthemum. And waffle cones with the briefest hint of thyme.

The brand has Aesop-ian outlets popping up all over Singapore, but it wouldn’t feel amiss should they box it up, spread the wings of their paradise bird and fly their edible happiness to freezers far further afield.
