Vietnam
Pasteur Street Brewing Company is a Vietnamese craft brewery, based in Saigon, producing international quality beer paired with flavours from traditional local ingredients.
Brand Snapshot
Most nations have a national beer, and the really good ones become not only liquid pride at home but a culture carrier abroad. Given mainstream Vietnamese beers have never achieved the latter, Pasteur Street has taken on the ambassadorial duty. It was founded with sharp intent: create zingy recipes by combining American craft brewing techniques, German/Belgian malt and US hops with local ingredients. Think stout with cinammon, vanilla and cocoa nibs. Think oolong tea and passion fruit. Think Phu Quoc island pepper. Think rambutan. This experimentation demands a fun and flair that is undeniably present in PSBC’s approach.
In borrowing what others do (or grow) best, they actually give themselves the space to do what they do better: be a brewhouse harnessing a country of ingredients to become national representation through flavour. The liquid, therefore, is cast as the protagonist in this story - with other brand elements providing a so-so supporting act. Some packs make an effort in visual storytelling, but others rely on delicate patterns that feel vaguely Asian-nomadic. However, flavour ultimately wins the day here and is what makes these beers recognisable as unmistakably Vietnamese, wherever in the world they show up.
